Abigail Janjic has been searching out and refining images for over ten years now. Whether she is painting, scanning, cutting out, printing, or assembling collages, she challenges us and connects us with the elusive and changeable so-called entity that is the image. Her work is in continuous movement, between designs, the walls and the ground, connecting them with delicate threads and tendrils which are just so many lines in space that draw our attention. She creates a fragile balance. The result is an often happy symmetry between chaos and elegance.

She has exhibited at ZQM in Berlin, at the Larspalm Gallery in Sandviken in Sweden and at the Geneva Contemporary Art Centre during the exhibition Protein Fix curated by Maya Rochat and U5. In 2019 she took part in the Bourses Berthoud, Lissignol-Chevalier and Galland, exhibited at the Salle Crosnier in Geneva, as well as in the independent space Body&Soul (GE), at the BIG (Biennale des espaces d’arts indépendants GE), at the Ferme de la Chapelle (GE) and at the Jungkunst in Winterthur.

In 2020 she was awarded an artist’s residency in Serbia organised by the Service culturel in Meyrin and the SKK and also took part in the project Art Emerges organised by the Vögele Kultur Zentrum in Zurich.

Since 2020 Janjic’s work has evolved in a new direction, combining dance and visual art. After an initial performance given at Kvaka 22 in Belgrade during her residency in Serbia, in May 2020 she obtained the Bourse de Commun from the city of Geneva. This invaluable grant has allowed her to continue her exploratory work at Projet H107 (a contemporary dance centre in Geneva) with two Swiss dancers.

*Abigail Janjic is also one of the instigators of the OPTIC residency with the collective KRIG (Karin Bäckström and Jon Permann). The aim of this residency is to connect the Swiss and Swedish cultural scenes and is supported by the fplce, iaspis, as well as Konstfrämjandet Gävleborg.
